Thats right, this week the Greyhound is on the list, and has been entered by the sweet Lori from What Remains now.

Lori has rescued and now has 3 retired racing greyhounds Casper, freedom, and Nikki. Thats right 3, but that is not all as you can read on her about page  she is a retired woman from the US army reserves, and is happy to enjoy and share what she beleives will be the best time in her life where she posts about none other than her  “life with the greyhounds, movies, books, crafts and more”.

Click the link or picture below to learn more about her and her three charming pups!

Now lets all learn a bit about a very unique and interesting breed…..

imagesGreyhounds have first been recognized and famously categorized as a dog related to Ancient Egypt. Though historically in literature at least these dogs were first documented as deriving from ancient Celts from eastern Europe or Eurasia. The Greyhound descend

1570's

1570’s

ants were introduced to the united kingdom as great scent hounds as early as the 5th and 6th century. They were first officially recorded in the 18th century (1700’s) which is a time many of today’s popular breeds were not for years to come.

.

Funny enough, as one might think this breed is of close relation to the Saluki based on appearance alone, during a 2004 analysis it was

made clear that these dogs are actually more closely related to herding dogs.

The name “Greyhound” does not actually mean grey-hound, but rather coming from old European language generally meaning “fair, bright, and to shine”.

Interesting fact: The greyhound is noted as being the only dog ever mentioned in the bible.

These dogs definitely did shine on the race tracks that is, well in the 20th century, as they are most commonly now known for. Which is why I would like to point out, as though many of you I sure am aware the track-life controversially (really depends on the owner of each race dog individually) has led to not always meaning glory, and welfare for the dogs.  As often they might shine on the racetracks, when (as we all do) wear out and are not at our peak anymore, the business side of this world can come out, and many greyhounds once they stop making money are left without homes.

That is why, I admire and have such respect for the people who do rescue these still lively, and happy dogs to live out the rest of their days being loved and cared for unconditionally. So Lori, extra applause from me to you:)

That’s all for today. Remember guys if you would like your breed entered, tell me which breed below, enter every week if you want!:)

And for anyone popping by today and missed Kirby’s video of his first birthday! Here it is, any shares would be much appreciated! And if you have seen it already that is all for today guys, signing out, XOXO- Kirby and Leah

All about our new viral mischief

So this post is the post you have all (hopefully ) been waiting for. Puppies? you say….Of course. Playing? you say………what would this be without it!

Kirby got the privilege of meeting not one itty-bitty  puppy, but two! And not only that but he helped teach anyone who wants to know my methods of introducing a dog (sometimes territorial  one) – Kirby and a new puppy. We had sooo much fun with these guys and each one is unique we had to break it up into 2 parts. Their doggy parent’s have not had a dog in a long long time, so I will be trying my best, at helping them along the way of this new exciting time. But enough talk let’s get to the videos. What puppy pulled at your heart-strings the most, comment down below! And if you guys could tweet a video or two Kirby tells me we will be forever in your flavor (he meant favor) enjoy!!!!

We are really trying to break out into this youtube world but instead of your average makeup and beauty stuff (which is nice too ) why not dogs! There doesn’t seem to be any floating around the youtube world, and they are so important to so many people! So any   SUBSCRIBE  would be sooo appreciated guys! As I did make the youtube mostly as a secondary to my blog and won’t be putting up all my youtube videos on the blog.

Kirby- “My ma worked really hard on these so please watch them guys and tell us what you think, they are for you after all,,,,, I donno why she took the time to do this, it made me miss out on play time you know!”

Also the thrill of social media I also met another girl who is just as obsessed with her dog as me (except she might know a bit more)

She has a video that links to this in telling you more the right way to socialize your dog. (that was the purpose of my videos too, but got a little side tracked with puppy cuteness!) Anyways here’s her video on it

And here is Faris’s blog if anyone wants to say hi!

http://www.animalsed.com/

We aregoing to be doing some fun giveaways so cross your paws and hold your breath! (now exhale!)

Yay! Ancient beginnings!

If you want to enter your breed next week (if they are a mix just pick one that you know they are mixed with) and tell me below which breed you are entering. You can enter any and every week, if you want 🙂
I am really excited about this winner, because they are a good bud of mine, and have almost entered every week, so its great their name finally came up. So without further ado…

Now let’s learn a bit about the Border Terrier.

It is said the border terrier had its start along the border between Northumberland and Scotland. These terriers often were bred and used to run with the foxhobordersoldgardnerwillbartons2und dogs, and horses in order to sniff out and capture foxes. They were usually very good at getting in the very tight sometimes impossible spaces hiding foxes got into.

It is said that the Border terrier is very closely related to the Bedlington Terrier and the Dandie Dinmont Terrier terriers (both pretty unique looking if you ask me!)williamcarruthersallenpipersmall

Border Terriers were first shown in the 1870’s at a more regional show in Scotland.

The first BT was registered with the AKC, in 1913, but didn’t gain official recognition till a bit later. This was due to some argument of making the Border Terrier a show dog among it’s enthusiasts, would inevitably make thebtm loose their “working” trait which is what originally made them so sought after. Though the terrier did end up being recognized in 1920.

Interesting fact: One of the most loveable and unforgettable movie actor dogs was actually a border terrier mix (just like Gizzy!), who was known for playing “Benji” in most of the franchise’s films!

Here’s the trailer of Higgins, and the first Benji movie (I think Gizmo would play Benji and little white fluffball is Kirby his sidekick!)

Late Mischeif Monday! New puppies!

So exciting news! My cousin got a puppy, and then so did somebody else I know! Two puppies in the span of the weekend. Kirby already visited one, and we will be visiting the other tomorrow! I’m putting them both in a video together so you guys can see Kirby meeting and interacting with his new buds, plus who doesn’t like puppies right! Sadly though the video won’t be up till a couple more days. Though they are both two uniquely different breeds that i think you guys will enjoy watching!

Anyways besides visiting one of the puppies! We did another trip to Petsmart. This time though I wanted to show you guys all Kirby’s favs, so far that is! I want to know your guys opinion on the products I’ve shown, do you guys use them/like them? Let me know in the comments down below.

Ancient Beginning new winner!

Time for another Ancient Beginnings!!!! This time I had alot of lovely comments, but very few submissions, remember if you want some spotlight on your furries’ blog, aswell as some history on him, NOMINATE HIM! XD. You can submit your dog breed (even if it is a mix) or cat breed of choice. But to do this you MUST tell me you want to enter, and tell me the BREED you picked as well. If you do not do this, you can not be entered, because it wouldn’t be fair to the people who took the time to tell me just that. Anyways this is a very exciting edition picked by the randomizer itself, and….TAKE IT AWAY KIRBY!

The wonderful blog entrant is none other then Easy the weimaraner. Easy is a dog that not only loves to have tons of fun with his mommy (I think their bed is their snugglepad) but their blog is filled with rich comedy, all coming from one very whitty Weimaraner of course- with his ma’s help. I am sure everyone knows who they are, but if not click the link above or picture below to see just what shenanigans Easy is up to today, trust me it is always something hilarious! I like to think of them as dog-blogville-comedy myself!

Here’s a little snippet from their About page to show ya what I mean XD:

“Profession: Student of psychological War-technics & Terrorism, after my Masterdegree  I become  to rule the world or maybe to be the owner of toys r us. actually  i’m not sure…
Status: Single – but in an  on/off relationship with a pillow
Pets: Hell, NO! I prefer a petfree home. But owner of two slaves  for my comfy
Misc.: Greencardowner for Masterbed,  Master of Begging, Prince of Thiefs”

And with this Easy I award you this badge! Humbly made myself 🙂

Now let’s learn more about our friend!

Princ RupertThe Weimaraner was said to have dated back to the late 18th and early 19th century. One theory is that this ancient breed is ancestors to a  bloodhound! (Can you believe it?!) and the German shorthaired Pointer.

Now how did they get that beautiful muted grey coat and fabulous eyes?  Well there are many firstlhweimstheories. One is although the Bloodhound is dark brown or black in colour it can produce a grey dog when properly bred. Though some experts  suggest that the Weimaraner came from an albino mutation in some ancient German gun dog breed. Then there is another theory that the Weimaraner descends from the German Braken, or from crossings between unnamed pointers (huenerhunden, or generic bird dogs), an unusual yellow pointer and possibly some French hounds as well.

Like the Vizla these dogs were created for the noble,  they were not just for your average fellow. The point of them when being in their creation process was to produce a dog that was noble-looking and a excellent gun dog. The difference these dogs made in the hunting world, is although they were not as fast as some of their competitors in the field, they were the most thorough. As ownership of one of these dogs was so restricted they were well prized among their owners, often living in the house with the rest of the family. This was very rare with gun dogs and working nimroddogs in general as they were usually at this time kept in kennels or outside in packs. This simple variation resulted in a character change among the Weimaranaer, as living with their master and family, it resulted in a dog that thrives of human companionship and being close to its owners and their children at all times. Which would be what revolutionized the Weimaraner into a excellent family pet. ( I think it would be fair to say it seems the Weimaraner was born with a silver spoon in his mouth! XD)

Casar_cropped_540-282x300The Weimaraner dog breed was created In Germany. The Germans were actually so protective of their breed, that when they first sent Weimaraner’s over to America with the intention to breed, they were sterilized before their trip there, so as not to have their breed popularized over there! Though starting in the 19th century something must have slipped because the breed (intact) did end up making it and becoming very popular in both Europe and America.

Although first created to be a excellent gun dog these days owners of the Weimaraner take most pride in their loving , and lively temperament as well as a general fondness for children. That may be why till this day, as it was still so many years ago, people who breed, and own Weimaraner’s take very special care in preserving the breed.

Interesting fact, Weimaraner’s were helped made popular in recent time with the help of photographer William Wegman who’s photographs were prized and still well known in pop culture.
