Settling in, everyone included, plus a little edition.

Hey everyone.
So happily I am finally settling in to my new surroundings for the time being. This is actually not going to be my permanent home, but either way it was nice to finally have things set up how I want them. This of course, includes my room which I will be painting Duck egg blue in the coming weeks:) Its the search for this paint at this location that is what led me to get my newest addition. I walked by and like a rabbit seeing carrots for the first time could not help but take a gander at the little fish displayed. It was just about time for the reasonable side of my brain to start reminding me that not only did I promise never to buy a fish from this place (as its a place that shouldn’t really be selling fish…..in my opinion) but this was a spur of the moment thing, something I did not need after moving to a new place in just over a week. Either way my heart strings were pulled at seeing this almost lifeless little betta crammed in the back row, looking small, sickly, and laying on the bottom of his cup almost sideways. He in no way was a pretty betta, and I couldn’t see someone out of all the beautiful ones being shown ever picking him, and to me at least he had very little time left anyways. So against my better judgement I took him home, quickly un-boxing cleaning and setting up a small (2 gallons) but decent enough aquarium I still had stored away. Adding, some smooth stones, a silk plant I still had lying around, a filter and heater (-canada) I was hoping I could give a little hope to this down and out fish. I had never seen one this lifeless and on the verge of something awful, so him making it past the first few days would be a accomplishment in itself.
Luckily I am glad to say the little guy did make it. Not only that but he is swimming up a storm, eating like a pig, and has changed from a white-ish pinkish colour to having some beautiful turquoise fins and what appears is going to be a deep red body. Kirby was a little intrigued but once figuring out it wasn’t something he’d be able to get out and “play with” has just become another decoration. To me a fish is a very peaceful pet to own, and if you have fish yourself you’ll know exactly what I mean, and will not be surprised considering my love for any sea creatures.
Thank you everyone for your kind and very helpful tips in the comments on how to help Kirby adjust to the new place. The consensus seemed to be act natural/ and confident so he will feel secure and it willย  rub off on him, which is exactly what I have been doing. Kirby I am happy to say has finally seemed to settle down, and get into his normal routine once again without any odd hiccups.

Anyways here’s some piccies, of the furball and the little fish and what he looks like these days ๐Ÿ™‚ If you check out my newest video at about 3:45 you can see how light he was . Oh also I need a name, so if you have any suggestions,I’m all ears!

  1. Hi Leah It ยดs been a while sweetie… I wish you are doing great! … So it seems now KIrby has a new friend right?. It ยดs lovely .

I used to have fishes when I was kid and still love them . Th estory behind is also very touching.

As regard to the name it could be “twinkle” ( I stole twose from a cartoon “Bananas in Pajamas” ๐Ÿ™‚

Well you should pick up a good number of options and then do a poll with the fellows bloggers,

    Hugs!!! Aquileana ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. So glad you are well settled and Kirby looks quite unbothered by his new friend…I think Phoenix as he rose from the yukky to become wonderful ๐Ÿ™‚ hugs Fozziemum xx

  3. Congrats on the new place, Kirby settling and the new little guy. Thank you for saving him. I had a betta for a while myself, he lived for about 3 years went through two moves which I think was a bit much for him. But thank you for bringing him to life again. He’s very colorful, I don’t have an idea for a name sorry. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  4. Glad you new place is working out. We don’t mind looking at fish, but we aren’t fish people. Mom likes pets she can hold and snuggle with, that is tough with fish!

  5. So glad you rescued him, so many of them just have to sit in those tiny cups with no food and they just end up dying. He’s very thankful I am sure, maybe name him simply Lucky! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. That poor fish! I’ve never seen such a pale looking betta before ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I’m glad you’re helping him heal, hopefully he’ll be right as rain soon! As for name suggestions I’d go with Trooper!

  7. I was going to suggest Phoenix also, but Phoenix is a big place (over half the size of Rhode Island) and that’s a little fish. How about Scott, short for Scottsdale, which borders Phoenix and isn’t as big. Of course, my being Scottish has nothing to do with it.

  8. As a child, I always named my fish Mickey and Minnie…didn’t matter how many fish I had. They were either Mickey or Minnie! LOL Enjoy your new place. Much love, The Scottie Mom.

  9. you have the BIGGEST heart of anyone that I know!!! You made this fish want to live! I say name him “Miracle” because he is and you worked Miracles with him! I love fish too, could watch them for hours!!!

  10. Leah you are an angel to rescue this little Beta…..we are cut from the same cloth…
I was thinking of SHIMMER for a name; it works for a boy or girl & well i think this little Beta will shine & shimmer in your care! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I look forward to new blogs about the little Beta that could///
Love Sherri-Ellen & Nylablue too xoxo

  11. He is so lucky you rescued him. It’s amazing what a little love and care will do. Too bad this place he came from doesn’t seem to care.

I laughed out loud at Hailey and Zaphod’s name suggestion. ๐Ÿ˜€ But how about Dancer? Or naming him (or her) after a famous dancer?

  12. Thanks for the lovely visit to my blog and it’s great to see such beautiful photo’s. I am glad to see you’re all settled in. What a lovely friend Kirby has. Such a cutie! ๐Ÿ˜€

  13. Congratulations with your fish success! Not very often a fish makes a recovery from being close to death’s door – all credit to you ๐Ÿ™‚ Great to hear Kirby’s settling in now, I’m sure your being happy and confident helped him loads. I remember some time back you mentioned you were hoping to learn French.Sure it’s not likely to be on your mind right now lol but if you do take it up later I hope it works out and you enjoy it. I’m battling on with the Polish and learned very early on that if you want to learn a new language you can’t be half hearted about it – you’ve really got to want to learn it and be prepared to slog it out! It can get very tough and disheartening at times and it’d be easy to give up but then you suddenly realise you’re progressing and it’s fantastic feeling! So if you do get into it at whatever point it’s a great skill to have ๐Ÿ™‚ Wolfie hugs to you both in your new home and hope your fish continues to thrive and live a long and cheery life with you ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

  14. Wow – not only are you a wonderful person, you make fish look wonderful too! Awesome he’s turning out such wonderful colours. Thank you for taking care of the ‘little guy’ He needs a name that is so big he will just keep growing to match it! Something like Eitan or Eytan which means strong.

  15. Glad you’re settling in. A bit of decoration is often all it takes to make a place feel like home. Have fun with the fish tank! Me, I don’t want anything in a cage or tank that I have to clean anymore. It’s bad enough I have to scoop the cat box every day. LOL!

  16. How wonderful and SO happy to hear that the fish is eating like a pig, wonderful! It’s great you are all settling in and I hope for your sake you will be there a while and not have to move any time soon. Time helps with everything, doesn’t it? Your new friend sounds like the perfect addition to make your move complete ๐Ÿ™‚
